In praise of rangers


Many of Africa’s wildlife rangers lead tough and often very dangerous lives, particularly in areas where poaching and the illegal trafficking in ivory and rhino horn are involved. They are not well remunerated, if at all, and some end up literally paying with their lives. Peter Borchert reflects on these brave men and women who frequently face up to criminals better resourced than they are.
